but I’m back. 🙂
I know you all may not have missed me, but I sure have missed you. So much has taken place since my last post that I’m not really sure where to begin. So I will do a quick recap and if any of it is old news, so be it. It is what it is and at my age, a bit of repetition happens.
Let’s start with academics as that has been my time-consuming venture. I have managed to knockout two Masters degrees in two years. One is an MLIS which allowed me to get my position as library director at my local library. The other degree I just wrapped up as it had to get sidelined for the MLIS. This is an MA in English Creative Writing. I had originally pursued that in the hopes of acquiring a full-time job where I could put my college degree to use. I am happy to be able to use both degrees at my current job, so it all worked out. And as always, who knows what the future will hold, One thing I can say with certainty is that I am finished going to school. There are other things I wish to explore and focus on and that does not include homework.
That sums up the academic part. The Mom part has seen one daughter get married, has another one getting married in just a few weeks, and my baby boy move out. Can you say “empty nest”?” It’s been chaotic, emotional, and expensive, but I am super thrilled about being at this new stage of life. I am enjoying discovering new interests, having quiet evenings, and seeing where the road leads. There is a certain sense of freedom when you don’t have little humans to fret over (now I have big humans to worry about….lol). I also take pride in knowing that I raised and loved my kids to leave, and they have done so with strong wings.
And now the chicken news. With kids leaving home and school wrapping up, I have found time to discover chickens. Yep, you read that right…chickens. Dave (can’t remember if I told you, but I remarried my ex-husband a year or so ago) and I became the proud chicken parents of 5 healthy buff orpington hens this fall. Pretty much we filled our empty next with birds…lol. As with any new adventure, it has been a learning experience, but we are getting there. Our girls are about 4 -months-old now, and going through puberty with voice changes (that is something for sure!). We have found that the chickens bring a sense of calm to our lives that had been missing. On a bad day, sitting in the pen with a chicken on your lap can instantly calm the spirit and put things back in perspective.
I think that about sums up the state of things in the “Nutt House.” My goal in this new year is to get back to blogging. I find it therapeutic for me, but also wish to continue my mission of helping others feel not so alone. We are all in this world trying to survive and do the best we can. If my experiences, or what I am going through can help ease some of the guilt and pain or even bring a bit of inspiration, then it was not in vain. Also, with the opportunities to do more trips, I hope to get back into the reviews and sharing my adventures with all of you. There are so many wonderful things in this world, some right in our backyards, we just have to take the time to see it and be present.
So, from me to you, Happy New Year; may it be one of the better adventures thus far.
