Creating Happy Vibes: The Music and Company that Shape Us

Hello, my dear readers, it has been a while. A lot has happened since my last post, nothing bad, just life, but I feel my writing here will definitely be a different tone and subject matter than previously. Despite that, my motives for blogging remain the same, to help others feel connected, to share our stories, and maybe in doing so, we breathe some good energy into this crazy world.

So today, I’m just going with the flow of conscious and we shall see what this blog turns out like. Truthfully, I’m just happy to dust off this keyboard and get back to writing something…anything.

Our attitudes and energy are influenced greatly by our environment. Yes, ultimately, we decide how we want to respond to a situation, to the world, but our environment can impact this frame of mind. For example, as I sit here writing, I’m listening to rather peppy music which makes this gloomy winter’s day feel a little less oppressive. However, if I was listening to darker sadder music, my mood would eventually turn melancholy tainting my view on the world and I’d probably end up crying. This has me pondering what people are listening to who approach others with certain extremes and expressions of emotions. This would honestly be a fun social experiment, but I can’t exactly interrupt a patron who is irate over a late fee on a book to ask what music they are listening to. I can observe my moods though.

I know I am happier when I listen to music that makes me want to sing and dance, things like…dare I say it…Taylor Swift….or some of my teen favorites that take me back to the carefree days of my youth. When I listen to music that is a bit edgier tone to it, like 3 Doors Down or My Chemical Romance, I drive faster and get a bit of a sassy attitude. This is true for the people I surround myself with, if they are negative, and critical over a situation, in time, I run the risk of developing that same fate. This reminds me of an old saying I heard as a kid: “Be careful of the company you keep.” I didn’t understand this as a kid – well, I kind of did but ignored it as any teenager would – but I realize that this doesn’t just imply to youth, it applies to us at every age. My coworkers help shape how I view my job. That’s some powerful stuff.

What else influences me….well honestly, EVERYTHING! I’m a chameleon, absorbing the world around me in order to reflect it back. With this in mind, my goal for this year it to make a conscious effort to take in what I want to share out. If I want to produce positive happy vibes, than I should submerge myself in things that make me happy. Some of those influences I can define…such as music and television shows….and some things I have yet to discover, but that is the great thing about a new journey, it is bound to be full of surprises.

So before I close this rambling post, I want to ask you what kind of energy due you want to put out into the universe? What means can help you achieve that goal? Please, share your thoughts and input in the comments below.

Happy journeying my friends.
